Can you remember a time when our grandmother or mother would go to the salon every week? Yes, every week to get their hair set in rollers. This happened. They'd sit under the dryer for about 30 to 60 minutes, and then they'd sit for another 10 minutes to allow the hair to cool down. After the rollers came out, their hairdresser (yes in those days they weren't called hairstylists!) would backcomb or tease their hair into place. Week after week, the same women got their hair done at the same salon, on the same day. Hmmm, do you think it became a social event also? Whatever the case it was a given and no one had words to say about it. The best part of this is if our grandmother didn't drive, guess who'd be taking her? Yes of course, her husband or son.
How awesome is that? I mean, you have to admit those women were smarter than we think. Forward to today, I don't understand why women who get weekly blowouts are considered princesses...if that's the case, what do we call the 2-3 per week blowout devotees? Some say these women have more money than brains. Not true! Sure they have the money, they just don't have the time to get their hair picture perfect. They make their weekly blowouts a regular part of their beauty upkeep, along with manis and pedis. That's right, same women at the same salon, on the same days every week.
The difference is today it's because they know that investing in their appearance will only enhance their career and their confidence. Today's woman gets pulled left, right and centre, and everyone wants her at once. The last thing she wants to worry about is her hair. So slotting a quick blowout at the salon will allow her to focus on what's important.
So now that we have justified the blowout habit, and you are convinced it's time to work it into your schedule, lets learn how to make that goregous 'do last, with a few simple tips:
Halfway through the week, if your hair starts to feel a bit gritty, use a dry shampoo spray around the hairline. If your fringe is feeling oily after the roots with dry shampoo pull your fringe back using a clip or headband.
As the week goes by, don't hesitate to use hot rollers or a curling iron to add some body and texture to your hair, but keep in mind that flat irons or curling irons cause more damage to our hair than blow dryers alone. So try working quickly when using hot elements on your hair, and use the many products designed to protect from heat.
Who's up for hair that makes us feel beautiful, hot , sexy, and totally in control all the time? Seriously, there's nothing we can't have. If our grandmothers were able to prioritize pro-coiffed hair on a weekly basis, why can't we?
How we appear needs to reflect that powerful presence inside us, and our very identity is represented in our presentation from top to toe...emphasis on the top... I may be biased but as far as I'm concerned, it's all about the hair!
